Wish List This is the list that we collectively came up with.
If our numbers come up we could have them all. Hope this list helps a few people contemplating building pens.
1. Engage a tall dark and handsome fencing contractor/ or husband. 2. North facing pens 3. Wheelbarrow access 4. Overhead misting system or sprinkler for really hot days 5. Lots of pens, rather than one big one - for different ages and genders (eg separating the boys). 6. Solid dividers (eg colourbond) so the roosters don't fight and get blemished 7. Shade cloth over the top of the runs for shade in summer 8. An isolation pen down wind - i.e chook hospital. 9. Roof of chook house to be above head level to avoid head injuries (to humans). 10. Auto feeders that you access from outside 11. Plants/trees (fruit trees love chook runs) 12. Fox proof fencing 13. Wire overhead for falcons (to protect the very young birds) 14. Housing to give shelter against prevailing weather 15. Really good shade for the more frequent 45c days 16. Automatic watering bowls on town water 17. Poly perches 18. Nesting boxes 19. Use fine bird wire to keep out the flying rats (Indian Miners) who will eat the food and bring diseases. 20. Concrete pen floor
